Vanaf 16 maart onderzoekt ARTisBOOK de implicaties van deze schijnbaar onschuldige vraag aan de hand van Naa Oyo Kwate’s boek Is It Safe? Kwate’s boek nodigt ons uit om na te denken over de politieke en sociale dimensies van veiligheid op reis. Want wie bepaalt er eigenlijk wat veilig is - en veilig voor wie? En hoe worden ideeën over veiligheid gevormd door klasse en racisme?

Is it Safe? is onderdeel van ons tweejarig programma travel, waarin we de politieke en poëtische kanten van het thema reizen onderzoeken. De exposities, lezingen en happenings vormen een doorlopende tentoonstelling waarin we de nieuwe inzichten en vragen meenemen naar onze volgende bestemmingen.

Starting 16 March, ARTisBOOK will explore the implications of this seemingly innocuous question through Naa Oyo Kwate's book Is It Safe? Kwate's book invites us to consider the political and social dimensions of safety while travelling. For who actually determines what is safe - and safe for whom? And how are ideas about safety shaped by class and racism?

Is it  Safe? is part of our two-year programme travel, during which we explore the political and poetic dimensions of travelling. The presentations, lectures and happenings form an ongoing exhibition in which we take the new insights and questions to our next destinations.
